BROADVIEW HEIGHTS – More often that not in a game the numbers tell the story. They back-up what you think you saw on the field while the game was unfolding. Once in a while something rare stands out. But not in this case, the Bees season-ending 26-0 defeat at Hudson Friday night.

The Explorers dominated the stat book as much as they were in control on the field for 48 minutes in the Suburban League National Division contest. Hudson’s performance solidified its spot in the playoffs. Brecksville-Broadview Heights had a chance to dance. The loss mathematically eliminated the Bees.

For the fifth straight season the Explorers were victorious over Brecksville. The Bees season ends with a 7-3 overall mark. They went 4-3 in the SL.

In total offense Hudson out-gained Brecksville by 14o yards (277 to 137). The Bees ran for just 27 yards on 41 attempts. In the passing department Danny Shirilla went 16 of 31 for 96 yards. He was intercepted twice.

Meanwhile Hudson was able to run for 161 yards on 36 tries. Backup sophomore quarterback Colt Pallay was an efficient 11 of 16 for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Both teams punted five times. The Explorers picked up ten first downs, the Bees 8. The Explorers fumbled the ball away twice. Ryder Seballos and Dean Campbell, a pair of seniors, were there to recover the miscues.

Sophomore Adrian Asimou was Brecksville’s leading receiver (5/29). Joey McGonegal and Niall Lewison each grabbed three Shirilla tosses.

Lewison left it all on the field. He had ten tackles, including five solos, caused a fumble, broke-up a Pallay pass and was in his face another time.

Sophomore linebacker Michael Graham led the squad with 11 total tackles (2 TFL’s).  Michael Rose, who had a solid season, also notched 11. Senior tackle Nick Sokolowski was in on nine. Junior linebacker Nick Zakelj, Seballos and Soko recorded sacks.
