BRECKSVILLE – The Bees will look to take that next step in sharpening their game tomorrow evening as Painesville Riverside visits Community Stadium for the second scrimmage for both teams prior to their season openers.

Last Saturday afternoon, under a hot sun at Medina Highland’s new North Gateway Tire Stadium, the Bees got a good look at what they need to improve on heading into Friday’s tune-up with the Beavers.

The freshmen and junior varsity squads will split the field for a 4:30 pm workout. The varsity scrimmage is slated to start in the neighborhood of 6:00 pm.

The Bees and the Beavers are long-time second scrimmage opponents. Riverside opens at Perry. Brecksville entertains Padua Franciscan at the Bee Hive. Both games are next Friday.

Riverside, under veteran head coach Dave Bors, is led by Bowling Green recruit Cameron Jeffries. The 5-9, 195-pound WR/RB/DB committed to the Falcons June 28. He is the Beavers first D-1 recruit in five years. Jeffries will likely play corner back in college. He has 4.43 speed and participated in last springs state track meet.

The Beavers went 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the Premier Athletic Conference last season. Brecksville went 8-3 overall and 5-1 in its final go-round in the Southwestern Conference.

In addition to scrimmaging every August, Riverside and Brecksville met in a playoff game in November of 2013 in Broadview Heights. The Bees prevailed, 53-35.

Riverside Review: The Beavers play on a natural grass field. It was recently redone by Deluxe Landscaping and it looks outstanding.

Bee Hive Buzz: This will be the first somewhat real football game on the new artificial surface in Community Stadium. Weather conditions tomorrow are supposed to be ideal.
